[New York, NY – July 22, 2021] – Mackenzie Shrieve, today released her debut album, In the While, via Satsuma Collective, an NYC-based music company. Across the LP’s fifteen tracks, Mackenzie’s vulnerable storytelling is captured in various lively pop melodies, soothing folky vocals, and brutally honest lyrics. The release is the second in a trilogy of works, preceded by “in the before” (September 2020).

For Mackenzie, the blend of personal and fictional narratives in her songwriting allows her to dig deep into the human experience and to develop an intimacy with the work she creates. “Some songs are fictional. Most are so personal, it’s hard for me to listen back sometimes,” she says. “There were so many parts of my life that I hadn’t written about yet. I started uncovering memories, got closer to my family, went through a breakup, and wrote everything down in the process.”

“It comes from writing about things while they’re happening or very shortly after as well as experiences that stand out so much, you keep reliving them for years – the good and bad,” Mackenzie said about the album title. The album was produced by Nat Jenkins and Mackenzie Shrieve, with songs co-produced by David Turk and Connor Sandstrom (Haiku, PPL).
