[New York, NY – August 18, 2023] Today, New York City’s singer-songwriter Mackenzie Shrieve releases her new record “Bug Bites.” It features LA-based Janna Jamison, and is the first single from her upcoming EP In the After, set to release October 20th.

Listen to “Bug Bites” HERE.

Co-written with Janna, the song is a guitar driven and hazy look into a relationship that is coming to an end. Produced by Mackenzie’s frequent-collaborator Nat Jenkins, this duet on the verge of a break-up leans into the sounds of 70s Soft Rock and some flavors of Country.

Mackenzie and Janna give extremely raw performances as both voices come together in a conversation where neither person is listening to the other, but both are desperate to be heard. These dual perspectives, alongside the blaring of the improvised trumpet melodies in the bridge, mimic the dramatic build of a fight that has happened many times before.

Speaking on the new song, Mackenzie says: “Even though it was written in the dead of Winter, Bug Bites is a warm and full representation of a relationship that both partners know is coming to end. I brought the first verse to Janna Jamison in December of 2021, where it was left bridge-less in our voice memos until January of 2023. Finally, on a freezing trip to Nashville in January of 2023, we sat down to finish the bridge inspired by the high school heartbreak in one of our joint favorite romantic comedies, Stuck In Love.”

Mackenzie’s upcoming EP In the After is the final installment of her trilogy which started in 2020 with the release of the single “In the Before,” followed by her debut album In the While in 2021.
